Temperature records in danger next week?

The heat will be back for the start of the week, and record breaking temperatures are possible.

After a cooler weekend, much warmer, if not hot temperatures make a brief return next week with highs potentially heading into the 30's Celcius in parts of England, and that puts some temperature records in danger.

The overall record for September is quite some way off; it was set back in 1906 in South Yorkshire when the mercury reached 35.6c and is unlikely to be under threat. It's the daily temperature records that could be in trouble, though.

For Monday, the record is 30.6c, set in Tunbridge Wells in 1911. Of the three days, we're looking at, this one is the biggest stretch, with highs of 26-27c expected.

Tuesday is another story, though. The record stands at 28.3c and dates back to 1934. As things stand, there's a decent chance of it going, with current model predictions taking temperatures up to, or in excess of 30c.

Forecast max temperatures on Tuesday

Wednesday is currently expected to be a touch cooler than Tuesday, but it may still be a record breaker. The mark to beat is 28.6c, set in 1900. Current modelling suggests highs of 28-30c are possible, so certainly in the right ballpark.

Thursday may keep the heat going, although this is a bit of a tricky call at this point in time, but it does look likely that by the end of the week we'll be cooling off once again. How many records will have fallen in the meantime, though?

Thanks to Torro for the daily record temperature info.
