More sunshine this week for the Edinburgh Festivals

More sunshine to come

Whilst much of England has been soaking under never ending rain this week, Scotland has been enjoying blue skies and sunshine. The summer weather has been quite variable through the Central Belt so far. and with Scottish schools returning at the end of their holidays soon, this week’s fine weather has been welcomed by many. The crowds in Edinburgh have been happily wandering about in the sunshine, taking in the many sights and sounds of the festival.  Although temperatures are only in the high teens, this is not a heatwave, overall this settled spell has been most welcome for the first full week of the Fringe and International Festival.

The sun is warm and strong at this time of year even though the breeze of the Forth has made it feel a bit cool in the shade. It is worth knowing that the evenings really quite nippy. For those going to the Edinburgh Tattoo or an evening Fringe show, there is still a lot of fair weather to come this week but do wrap up warm by night.

Pressure has been rising bringing this steady weather which will hold through Thursday resulting in another lovely day.

Friday could see showers

Friday looks a bit more uncertain as rain heads in off the Atlantic. There could be a scattering of showers by day but in between more warm sunny spells and a blustery wind.

By the weekend it’s back to the settled, dry and bright weather with lighter winds and still temperatures in the high teens. The Book Festival starts on Saturday, so ideal conditions for all the events at Charlotte Square.

Continued good news for the street performers on the Royal Mile, the visitors wandering from venue to venue, the outdoor cafes and bars at George Square. My favourite passing entertainment so far, bringing a smile to my face, has been the silent disco crowd grooving past. A group with headphones on, led by the orange clad @Gurududu, singing their way through Waverly station, belting out Bohemian Rhapsody. Enjoy the fine weather and sunshine folks, thank goodness for no thunderbolts and lightning.
