Cool, Sunshine & Showers Theme Here To Stay

Sunshine & heavy showers for most today, after a dry and bright start in the east. Continuing blustery, unsettled and cool Friday and through the weekend, with further showers or spells of rain.

Cool, Sunshine & Showers Theme Here To Stay

An area of low pressure sat close to the west of Scotland will be with us to end the week and through the weekend too, keeping our weather changeable and unsettled – with sunshine and showers or longer spells of rain for many. The unsettled and often blustery theme looks to continue through much of next week too, with low pressure close by and little sign of settled conditions to bring some proper warmth.

Today

For now, a fairly deep low pressure system parked up by NW Britain is bringing a blustery southwesterly wind and frequent showers to western areas. Eastern areas will be mostly dry and bright for a time this morning, but showers in the west will become more widespread further east. Showers always more frequent in the west and not everywhere will catch a shower across more eastern areas, with some sunny spells between the showers too, but if you do catch one anywhere in the UK -  it could be heavy with a risk of hail, thunder and gusty winds.

Temperatures will be rather disappointing for late July, reaching 16-20C at best across England and Wales, 15-17C across Scotland and N. Ireland.

Pollen levels generally low away from the SE, UV Levels moderate

Tonight

Showers fading and turning largely dry with clear spells across much of England and Wales away from western coasts. But the showers will continue across Scotland and N. Ireland close to the low pressure west of Scotland, showers merging into longer spells of rain from the west and accompanied by a brisk southwesterly wind. Temperatures falling to around 12-15C.

Friday

Friday will see further frequent showers for Scotland and N. Ireland, driven through by a blustery southwesterly wind, though parts of southern and eastern Scotland will escape with fewer showers with some staying dry and sunny. Away from the western coasts of Wales and NW England, where we may see showers from the word go, much of England and Wales will have a mostly dry and bright or sunny morning. But through the afternoon cloud will thicken from the southwest, with outbreaks of rain spreading northeast across Wales, Midlands and southern England by early evening, though northern England could stay dry and sunny. Temperatures again disappointing, reaching 17-20C.

Weekend

Rain will spread northeast across most of England and Wales Friday night, reaching northern England after a dry and sunny end to the day. The overnight rain should clear away east by breakfast time on Saturday though, with much of the UK have a mostly dry and bright day away from the northwest where we will continue to see blustery showers. However, a trailing cold front lying through the English Channel will mean it will stay cloudy across southern counties of England with rain returning through the afternoon, perhaps turning heavy and thundery across the far southeast. Temperatures reaching 16-20C generally, perhaps 22C across SE England and East Anglia.

Low pressure with us throughout the weekend, bringing sunshine & showers or longer spells of rain

Rain clearing southeast England first thing on Sunday morning, then it will be a day of sunshine and blustery showers across much of the UK, showers locally heavy with a risk of hail and thunder, most frequent towards the north and west. Temperatures similar to Saturday, 16-20C generally, 21-22C towards the southeast.

Next week

The unsettled theme continuing early next week, with sunshine and showers across many areas. Perhaps a more prolonged spell of rain across the north and west on Wednesday, drier and brighter in the south. Then sunshine and showers theme returns for Thursday and Friday across all parts.
