The UK is in for another fine sunny day. Still cool in the shade and the brisk breeze in the south but still it's not raining. A few areas of low cloud but fine again tomorrow.
Morning, the clocks have changed (spring forward an hour), and it’s Mothering Sunday. It’s still sunny with some glorious weather about this weekend. 19.1C in NE Scotland yesterday, 17.6 for Northern Ireland, 18.7 in NW Wales and nearly 17C for a few spots across England. Today there is a little wispy high cirrus about, low cloud for Harris and still Shetland but with less breeze than yesterday. It was chilly overnight so it is a cool start and the air will remain quite cool in the shade and the breeze throughout today. However, in the sunshine, it will be another lovely spring day with temperatures widely 12 to 16C.
The winds will make a difference.
High pressure is centred over northern Britain, so there are lighter winds here. Further south, there will be a brisk east wind, making all of eastern England feel chilly at 10 or 11C by the coast. The North Sea is barely 8C at this time of year. This air is cool and dry so with a fresh wind it is going to feel nippy. Yet, behind a window, in a sheltered spot, with the sun shining on you for a while, it will feel lovely. Such contrasts during March and April.
Tonight, the winds ease in the east with some low cloud drifting in off the North Sea. There will be a patchy fog as temperatures dip away with more breezy conditions for western Britain and Northern Ireland.
Monday looks like another fine mostly sunny day. It looks like low cloud will flow in off the North Sea for northeast England and SE of Scotland with patchy cloud for Northern Ireland and SW England, later more of eastern Scotland. It will still be a pleasant dry day with more spring warmth in the sunshine.
By Tuesday, there will be some moisture in the air, the thick cloud off the North Sea making the air damp in parts. Cloud, around an area of low pressure off SW Ireland, starts to throw in showery outbreaks of rain and a frontal band heading south across the Northern Isles with more cloud. The winds begin to veer from SE to SW.
East Anglia and SE England could fee much warmer in southerly winds, seeing 17C, maybe higher in the sunny spells. Middle of the week looks much more unsettled with wet and windy weather moving in from the Atlantic, the high pressure gone. There still could be some spring warmth for SE Britain, hints of 19 or 20C for Thursday but low confidence on that for now. At least the fine settled sunny weather arrived for the weekend for once.
