Come rain or shine, it's BBQ time!

Clear the snow, sleet and hail, it's Bank Holiday barbeque time. There will be some better weather for the long weekend, but it's still not that warm.

I was asked 2 weeks ago if this Saturday was going to be any good for a BBQ. Too far ahead I said, but it doesn't look that warm.

Warmth seems to have no part of planning a British barbeque. It is about opportunity. There will be those weekends following our occasional warm, sunny fine weeks when everyone clears the meat shelves of burgers, sausages and chicken drumsticks and you can't find a pack of finger rolls for miles. But there are also Bank holiday weekends when regardless of the weather forecast for rain, cold and gales, there is need to have a BBQ.

Is your BBQ going ahead regardless of the weather?

It does seem to be quite a male fascination. Personally, I'm quite happy to not uncover the BBQ or to have to flick off all the snails that have been wintering in the tarpaulin's folds. I can leave that til I don't need my winter coat on.According to a couple of tabloids today, 80% of Brits are planning a BBQ this weekend, 6 out of 10 would carry on cooking through a downpour and that it makes a better event to have an interruption for rain.

Weather Improving

If you are keen, there will be some fine evenings but they will be chilly. And it won't be snowing like some parts have seen overnight and today.

Have you mananged to mow the grass recently? Could be a fair few doing that by Saturday lunchtime.

Saturday will be the best day of the weekend, lot of fine sunny weather, still with a scattering of sharp showers by mid afternoon. These fade by the evening as the breeze eases, so worth a BBQ Saturday evening

Sunday sees rain from the NW but SE England could miss this. It will be more cloudy for Sunday evening, the daytime rain should have faded (except for far W.Scotland). Not as cold but with a bit of a breeze.

Bank Holiday Monday will see another band of rain and be blustery. There still could be showery bits about for Monday evening, so a bit risky but worth sneaking in another try before the return to work. Turning chilly again later.
