Chilly with blustery showers and strong sunshine

There are some contrasts in this weeks weather, at times it will feel pleasantly warm in the strong sunshine, but in the shade or under cloud there's a distinct chill to the air with night time frosts and even some hill snow for northern areas.

It's the last few days of April, and there's no sign of any proper Spring warmth before the month ends, but there are some signs that it may turn milder and more settled for the Bank Holiday weekend, Jo will have more details on the prospects in the mid week update.

For now it's a distinctly winrty feel for northern areas, with hill snow as blustery showers blow through, further south it is a little milder, but still a long way down from the the highs of last week.

Blustery showers tonight, wintry for northern hills

Blustery showers

The chilly wind will pick up this evening, with frequent showers for the northern half of the UK, wintry over the hills and possibly for lower levels at times too, for the southern half the showers will be more scattered but could be heavy if you catch one.  With more cloud around it'll not be as cold as last night, with just a patchy rural frost in places.

It'll be another day of sunshine and showers tomorrow, mainly for northern and western areas, again wintry over the hills in the cold wind.  Once again southern and eastern areas will fare a bit better with more sunny spells and isolated showers.

Wet, windy Wednesday, more hill snow for the north

Unsettled Wednesday

Overnight into Wednesday a low pressure crosses the north of the country, with a band of heavy rain and showers along with a blustery wind heading south east across the country, with more hill snow for northern areas as it passes.  It will clear the far south east at some point tomorrow afternoon with sunshine and showers following behind, it'll be a chilly day with maximums of between 9 and 11c.  Another chilly day with sunshine and showers on Thursday before we see signs of high pressure trying to assert itself and the possibility of milder more settled conditions for some as we head into the Bank Holiday weekend, but there's plenty of time for things to change, so keep watching the updates.
