More Heavy Rain For The North & West ...
The remnants of Tropical Storm Nadine, which arrived on Sunday and pushed heavy rain north across many areas on Monday, continues to cause problems in the form of flooding and high winds. The threat for flooding looks to be particularly acute across northern England and north Wales, where heavy and persistent rain will likely linger through much the day.
Already we have seen more than a month's rainfall in some parts in the last 48 hours, with over 70mm falling in some spots across northern England since Sunday. At the time of writing, there are 55 Flood Warnings for England and Wales, the majority across northern England. There are also 6 Flood Warnings across southern Scotland too. And with a further 30-50mm possible by the end of today across northern England, there is likely to be an increasing threat of rivers bursting their banks.
So in more detail for today, wet weather through much of the day across northern England, Northern Ireland, eastern Scotland, north and west Wales. It will be drier across western Scotland and may turn drier across Northern Ireland later, but strong easterly or northeasterly winds will affect Scotland and later Northern Ireland - with gusts of 60-70mph possible. To the south of the rain, breezy but with some sunshine across central, southern and eastern England. However, showers across The English Channel and far southwest this morning will tend to move inland across southern England, some of which may be heavy and thundery.
Overnight, rain across the north and west will sink south across Wales, western and central parts of England, heavy showers towards East Anglia and southeast England. A few showers elsewhere, otherwise dry. Into Wednesday, spells of more persistent rain at times continuing across Wales and SW England, otherwise sunny spells and heavy showers across the rest of England. Scotland and Northern Ireland hopefully seeing a somewhat drier day with some sunny spells.
Quieter towards the end of the week, further showers across southeastern parts on Thursday, but it should be mainly dry and bright elsewhere. Mostly dry and bright in the east on Friday, though cloud and mainly light rain arriving across the north and west.
