An Autumnal Feel
A brisk westerly or northwesterly breeze this morning, following a cold front moving through overnight, means we are all in the same boat now - with fresher and cooler conditions compared to the summery feel over the weekend. For the next few days, it will continue on the cool side everywhere, with some rain moving south, followed by brighter conditions and a few showers. Later this week, Tropical Storm Leslie, which will move across New Foundland today, is expected to race northeast towards Iceland by Thursday as a deep ex-tropical depression by then. So strong southwesterly or westerly winds are likely to develop Thursday and early Friday across Scotland in particular, which could gust to 60-70 mph, with a spell of heavy rain possible too. The upside further south, will be that it will be a little warmer by the end of the week.
Back to this morning, it will continue bright and breezy and mostly dry for many areas, though the brisk northwesterly wind will continue to blow some heavy and locally thundery showers in across northern England and also some showers in across western Scotland, the north coast of Northern Ireland and northwest Wales. Through the afternoon, scattered showers will pass through many areas, heaviest across central areas, though parts of southern England and eastern Scotland could escape with a dry day. A cool day, temperatures staying in the low to mid teens everywhere, 13C in Glasgow, 15C in Newcastle, 16C in Cardiff and 18C in London the likely highs today.
Persistent rain spreading in across Northern Ireland and southern Scotland overnight, will then spread sporadically south across England and Wales during Wednesday, reaching the southeast by the evening. A brighter day across Scotland and Northern Ireland with a few showers, but still on the cool side everywhere.
Thursday looks likely to be a dry and sunny day for most areas, but turning wet and very windy with gales developing across northern Scotland. Very windy with some rain at first across the north on Friday, dry and fine but breezy in the south. Winds easing and mostly fine and warm into the weekend, though rain perhaps returning to the far north.
