Summery Week Ahead ... For Most

Summery Week Ahead ... For Most
You could argue that summer doesn’t officially end until the 22nd September, on the Autumn Equinox. And certainly the weather this week will be of a summery nature for most of the country, as an area of high pressure, normally resident over the Azores, ridges northeast across the British Isles this week. Although it will be generally dry and warm this week, a weather front across northern Scotland today will work its way south across the rest of the country on Tuesday, bringing some cloud and patchy rain. But Wednesday onwards, much of the UK can expect lots of fine, warm and sunny weather right into next weekend.

Back to this morning, away from SE England, central and northern Scotland, it’s been sunny so far. Cloud across the SE of England should eventually melt away, so much of England and Wales will enjoy a warm and sunny afternoon, with temperatures reaching 21C in Manchester and Cardiff, perhaps 25C in London. Although southern and eastern Scotland may remain dry and bright at times until later, much of northern Scotland and Northern Ireland will have a rather cloudy day, with rain moving in across northern and western Scotland later, accompanied by strong winds gusting to 50-60mph.

Overnight, the weather front bringing a band of cloud and rain will continue to slip south across Scotland, reaching northern England and north Wales by dawn. Strong winds continuing across Scotland. Then for a Tuesday, still windy across Scotland, though mostly dry and sunny. A weakening weather front will continue south across England and Wales, bringing a cloudy day across central and southern areas - with some patchy light rain or drizzle. Though turning brighter across northern England and the southeast may stay bright or sunny until the cloud arrives later.

Wednesday onwards will be largely fine and dry, with increasing amounts of warm sunshine across the UK by day, though some chilly nights. Northern and western Scotland may see more in the way of cloud at times, with some rain.
