Heavy Showers Today, Drier Sunday, Rain Returns Monday
There will be some rain around this holiday weekend in the form of heavy showers today and more general rain moving in on Monday, so it could turn rather muddy for some of the outdoor festivals and events this weekend. But we are hopeful that many areas will have a drier day on Sunday with some sunny spells.

For today, we have scattered showers from the word go across parts of England, Wales and northern Scotland, with a band of cloud and more general rain across the far north of England and southern Scotland - which will linger through much of the day. Through the day, the showers across England and Wales will become more widespread and heavier, with a risk of hail and thunder, some sharp showers continuing across northeast Scotland too. Showers and storms will be slow-moving across The Midlands and East Anglia, bringing a risk of localised flooding. Moving through more quickly across southern England - where we will have a strong wind gusting to 40-50mph across the SE corner. NW Scotland and Northern Ireland should escape with a mostly dry day though with sunny spells and just the odd shower. Temperatures will be nothing to write home about, 15-17C in the north, 19-20C in the south.

Most showers or outbreaks of rain will pull away eastwards into the North Sea overnight, followed by a cool northerly wind which will make it turn rather chilly across the north by dawn. So Sunday should be a drier and sunnier day for most areas, though a few isolated showers may develop across central and eastern England. Temperatures reaching 15-17C across Scotland and Northern Ireland, 19-21C across England and Wales.

It's all downhill again on Monday, as a deep area of low pressure moves in from the west, bringing a spell of wet and windy weather eastwards across most areas, after a bright and dry morning in the east. Winds will reach gale force across western coasts, so all-in-all, not a great day to be out and about.
