Unsettled Bank Holiday Weekend

Unsettled Bank Holiday Weekend
Following on from the wet Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend back in June, the late August Bank Holiday Weekend looks to follow in a similar vein, with a succession of low pressure systems moving across the country bringing wind and rain or showers. On the back of last weekend's very warm or hot weather in many areas - where temperatures reached 32C (90F), this weekend will be distinctly cooler with temperatures that are likely to reach no higher than 20C (68F).

Back to today, it's a bright or sunny morning in many areas, though we do have some showers across western areas. These showers will become more widespread across northern and western areas into the afternoon and it will become increasingly cloudy too. The best of the sunshine will be reserved for southeastern areas, though turning cloudier here too by the evening. Temperatures this afternoon should reach 17C in Edinburgh, 18C in Manchester and Cardiff and 22C in London.

This evening and overnight, cloud will thicken from the west, bringing outbreaks of rain across northern and western areas initially, then spreading across central and eastern areas after midnight. So Friday will likely be rather cloudy across many areas with occasional rain in the west at first, followed by a spell of wet and windy weather, with a risk of thundery downpours, spreading in across southwestern then southern areas through the afternoon and evening. Some eastern areas may see some brightness though.

An area of low pressure moving in across the southwest on Friday, bringing the wind and rain to southern areas, will then move slowly east across England over the weekend. So this will mean Saturday will be fairly cloudy and windy, particularly in the south, with spells of rain or heavy thundery showers for many areas. As the low continues east on Sunday, it may turn drier and brighter across more western areas, but showers or longer spells of rain look to plague eastern areas and it will feel rather cool in the north to northwesterly breeze. Monday should hopefully bring a dry and bright or sunny morning to many areas and it may remain so through the afternoon in the east, but cloud and rain looks to spread in across western areas through the afternoon.
