More Thundery Showers, Cold Nights

More Thundery Showers, Cold Nights
We have a few more days yet of sunshine and showers, though showers will tend to be less widespread on Friday and Saturday and by Sunday many areas will be mostly dry and settled as high pressure builds in from the west. It will also turn somewhat colder heading into the weekend, as low pressure which has been close by, pulls away eastwards, allowing an increasingly cold polar flow to sink down from the north. So showers over the next few days will turn increasingly wintry, with snow over higher ground in the north and widespread frosts will develop overnight.

For today, apart from showers from the word go across eastern Scotland and northern England, most places have a dry, clear and chilly start to the day. However, clouds will quickly bubble up this morning - with widespread showers once again breaking out by this afternoon. Showers will become heavy in places and slow-moving, with a risk of hail and thunder - more particularly across central, southern and eastern parts of England. Showers in the north will be increasingly wintry in nature, falling as snow across upland areas of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the far north of England. Temperatures this afternoon will reach 10C in Edinburgh, 11C in Belfast, 12C in Cardiff and 14C in London. Winds will generally be light from the north or northwest, though windy in the far north of Scotland.

Showers dying out and skies clearing overnight away from northern Scotland, central and northern England, with a frost developing away from towns and cities. Then Friday will see another day of sunshine and showers, though showers will be well scattered and perhaps less heavy than today - with some places remaining dry and sunny. Further showers in places on Saturday, wintry with hill snow in the north, though again some areas staying dry. Mainly dry and sunny on Sunday though risk of an isolated shower in the east. After a dry morning on Monday, wet and windy weather looks to spread in for the rest of the day, with more spells of rain or showers likely through the rest of next week.
