Jetstream On The Move
The
jetstream is a real hot topic at the moment, it's been to the south of the UK for much of the summer so far leading to the very wet weather we've seen, but now it's looking set to make a move further north from the weekend and into next week..
What this will mean is that high pressure will be able to ridge in to the south of the jet, finally bringing more in the way of settled, dry and warm weather - especially into England and Wales.
Today actually sees the jet making a (very) temporary excursion north, meaning there should be a good deal of dry and bright weather to be had from the midlands southward, but as it's just a brief affair and just a weak ridge of high pressure there will still be some showers around at times.
Further north, outbreaks of rain will be making their way across Ireland and into Northern England during the day, pushing north toward southern Scotland later on this evening and overnight. Some of the rain will be heavy at times with 25-50mm+ of rain possible - especially in northwest England and the northern half of Ireland, which could well lead to some disruption.
Into tomorrow, heavy and frequent showers, along with thunderstorms will continue to affect Ireland, Northern England and Western Scotland. Elsewhere it's a case of sunshine and sharp showers with the showers least widespread in eastern regions.
As we move into Thursday and Friday the sun and showers theme continues - although they shouldn't be quite as widespread and potent as they were during Wednesday.
It's into the weekend we start to see some changes taking place, the showers become fewer and further in between on Saturday, then Sunday should be mainly dry for most - although some heavy rain will be making it's way into Scotland from the northwest.
That rain then slides southeast into the beginning of next week, but high pressure should then build in from the southwest as that pesky
jetstream makes its move..
